Marnie’s roles at Miles Morgan encompass project manager and senior researcher. She is currently project manager of the development of support materials for the new Certificate IV in Career Development, and is the project manager for the Australian Career Development Studies package. Marnie contributes to other projects carried out by the Miles Morgan team in a number of ways, including editing, researching, designing, IT support, writing, and consulting/interviewing.

Marnie holds an Honours degree in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Anthropology. These qualifications have provided her with an in-depth knowledge of qualitative methods of inquiry and a particular interest in the social impacts of policy. Marnie has also participated in a project management short course to hone her skills in this area and enhance her capacity to manage larger projects.

Prior to working with Miles Morgan, Marnie worked at Murdoch University as a tutor and assistant to a course coordinator in an administrative role. Tutoring first year university students enabled Marnie to develop an understanding of the difficulties first year students can face when attempting self-directed learning for the first time. Her tutoring work also included online tutoring, a challenging experience that sparked an interest in e-learning.

During this time Marnie was also conducting research for her PhD thesis exploring the nature of love and friendship as we age, and the ways dominant social narratives impact on our relationships, as we grow older. This work included presenting her work to peers both in Australia and in Canada, interviewing older people, and policy analysis. While she has withdrawn from this project to pursue her consulting career, she plans to revisit the project in the near future.

Marnie’s work with Miles Morgan has enabled her gain experience working at federal, state and local levels of government, and with a wide variety of stakeholders in various capacities. Miles Morgan projects she has contributed to include the development of the Australian Career Development Studies Learning Package, in particular, consultation with stakeholders in the career development industry, schools and parents and citizens associations. She has also worked on various consultative projects for the Career Industry Council of Australia, including the development of Guidelines for Career Development Services and Career Information Products, which required a broad ranging consultation with members of the career development industry, and the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners, where she undertook consultation with career development industry members and carried out data analysis. She was also a consultant to the COAG Skills Recognition Taskforce.
